‘Westworld’ Season 2 Halts Production Due To California Wildfires

Southern California’s worst fire season on record has led to another shutdown of production on the second season of HBO’s Westworld.

The premium cabler announced the suspension today as a 200-acre brush fire accelerated by the Santa Ana winds out broke out near the show’s filming location in Santa Clarita. An HBO spokesperson released an official statement on the matter:

“Due to nearby wildfires, Westworld stopped production earlier today and will resume filming as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

One of two filming units for the hit sci-fi-western series temporarily shut down only a month ago after Zahn McClarnon, who plays a recurring character in season 2, was hospitalized with a head injury.

Westworld stars Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Jimmi Simpson, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Simon Quarterman, Angela Sarafyan, Clifton Collins, Jr., and Luke Hemsworth. The series has added Gustaf Skarsgård (Vikings), Fares Fares (Tyrant) Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Jonathan Tucker (Justified), Neil Jackson (Sleepy Hollow), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine), and Katja Herbers (The Leftovers) into the mix for the second season. Talulah Riley and Louis Herthum have also been upgraded to series regulars.
