It was revealed today by Variety that Thandie Newton is currently in talks to join the upcoming Han Solo spin-off which is the next Star Wars anthology film. There were no details about what her role would be, should she sign on. Newton is currently portraying the role of Madame Maeve Millay on the HBO series, Westworld that has been renewed for a second season that is set to air in 2018.
This follows the recent news of Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge also possibly joining the upcoming standalone film in what is being described as a “key role”. Just recently, Chris Miller, who is directing the film with Phil Lord, revealed that production on the film had officially started under the working title Red Cup.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s untitled Han Solo spin-off film, starring Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Community, Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson as Garris Shrike and Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) is set to open in theaters on May 25, 2018. The screenplay comes from Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.
Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, starring Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, along with Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran, opens in theaters on Friday, December 15.
