Spider-Man and Aquaman star Willem Dafoe becomes the next Joker in an awesome new concept design for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman.

Robert Pattinson’s The Batman is shaping up to be one of Warner Bros. and DC’s most exciting movies thanks to its star-studded cast, which features the likes of Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler and Colin Farrell as The Penguin. With so many iconic DC Comics villains in tow, it’s surprising that the highly-anticipated Matt Reeves film won’t include Batman’s arch-nemesis, The Joker. While the character hasn’t been officially announced for The Batman, a rumor from earlier this month suggested that the he would appear in the movie’s planned sequels. With the rumor gaining traction, digital artist Jaxson Derr has shared a cool fan edit that shows off what Willem Dafoe could look like as the Clown Prince of Crime for Pattinson’s The Batman.

In the fan edit, Willem Dafoe can be seen rocking the classic purple Joker suit, as well as the white makeup and green hair. Fans have been clamoring to see Dafoe as the Joker for years now so it’d be earth-shattering to see him in the role, especially opposite Robert Pattinson. Dafoe and Pattinson recently shared the screen in the 2019 horror movie The Lighthouse. The two have exceptional chemistry together and would definitely shine as enemies in Matt Reeves’ Batman trilogy.

Unfortunately, there’s no certainty that Willem Dafoe — who previously played the Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy — will be joining the upcoming DC Comics film. Also, it should be kept in mind that Dafoe is already on DC’s payroll as he played Vulko in Aquaman. Who knows, though, as stranger things have happened in the DC Extended Universe, like Michael Keaton returning as Batman for Ezra Miller’s first cinematic solo outing as The Flash.

Plot details for The Batman are under wraps but the project will be centered on Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, focusing on the Dark Knight during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector. The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than what we’ve seen before in previous iterations of the character. The film is also expected to be the first installment to a new trilogy with Pattinson as Batman.

Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
