Leading up to the release of this year’s Wonder Woman — even since the announcement — people were excited to finally get a female-driven superhero movie that wasn’t anything like 2005’s Elektra or 2004’s Catwoman. In fact, those movies were said to hold partial blame for the reason that studios avoided female superhero movies.
The former Catwoman star, and no stranger to comic book films with her role as Storm in the X-Men franchise, Halle Berry spoke to Yahoo Movies at San Diego Comic-Con recently while promoting Kingsman: The Golden Circle to profess her fandom for Gal Gadot, who starred in a Wonder Woman film that was essentially everything Catwoman wasn’t.
“I’m like Gal Gadot‘s biggest fan right now,” Berry said. “I was so proud of that movie and proud of her. And what that [movie] has done for women, it’s palpable to me.”
“It was beautifully done and well shot,” Berry added. “And Gal is the perfect representation right now for that kind of superpower.”
According to the box office, Berry isn’t the only fan. Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, has already made $385 million domestically and should be passing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in that respect any day now.
Whether or not Berry’s newfound fandom will lead to a friendly basketball scene with Gadot in Wonder Woman 2 is still anybody’s guess.
Here is the synopsis for Wonder Woman:
“Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.”
Wonder Woman is in theaters now.
