After Wonder Woman opened to critical acclaim and experienced record-breaking box office success through the summer, Warner Bros. is planning to launch an awards season campaign in an effort to land a Best Picture and Best Director nomination for the DC film at the Academy Awards. Having recently closed a deal to helm the Wonder Woman sequel, director Patty Jenkins discussed her plans for the second film and commented on the Oscar buzz surrounded the first film during an interview with the Toronto Sun.
Jenkins shared her plans for the Wonder Woman sequel and what excites her about Diana’s next adventure:
“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero. I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing. Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”
Jenkins also responded to the Oscar buzz surrounding Wonder Woman:
“When you’re making a movie it’s completely all consuming; there are many things you don’t have time to think about. I certainly wasn’t thinking about the Oscars. It’s just not something you consider when you make these kinds of movies. I did the best that I could, but you kind of assume you’re not going to be considered for that kind of thing. But now, hearing that, I’m so flattered and stunned and super honoured to be in the awards conversation.”

Wonder Woman 2 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters December 13, 2019.

7 Wonder Woman Villains Perfect For Future Sequels
Now that Wonder Woman is officialy getting a sequel, it’s time to start fantasizing about what we’ll see in the character’s next cinematic solo outing and beyond. Wonder Woman has a rich rogues gallery that has transformed and grown alongside her as she’s become one of the world’s most iconic heroes.
Ares, the Greek god of war, was the main villain for Wonder Woman’s first outing, but DC is gonna need to shake things up for future projects. Diana Prince has already proved herself a terrific warrior in Batman v Superman when she took on Doomsday, so I’m excited to see who the creators want to throw at her next. She doesn’t need a full team beside her — Wonder Woman is warrior enough to defend the innocent from all types of threats.
