‘X-Men’ Fans Celebrate Film’s Influence On 18th Year Anniversary

X-Men Popularity Fox MCUYesterday marked the 18th anniversary for X-Men, and fans have shared the many ways the superhero franchise has influenced their lives.

X-Men is a conflicting film. Critically, it was well-received at the time. Fans were just excited to see their favorite heroes on the silver screen depicted as legitimately cool characters, and it was nice to share the excitement with mainstream audiences. What followed afterward, however, is a point of tension for comic book fans. The use of black leather costumes instead of the vibrant blue and yellow costumes paved the way for a more down-to-earth portrayal of characters that were inherently quirky and offbeat. Soon, the X-Men franchise was known, and criticized, for what was perceived to be as being ashamed of the comic book origins the hit film had. Soon, Marvel Studios capitalized on this and began releasing their Marvel Cinematic Universe to incredible results, but nevertheless, this road was paved by X-Men.

18 years later, fans have come to express their admiration for the film and the influence it has had on their lives. Check out their tweets below!

The next X-Men film is Dark Phoenix. The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Evan Peters, Kodi-Smit McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Lamar Johnson, Sophie Turner and Jessica Chastain.

Dark Phoenix hits theaters February 14, 2019.
