X-Men: Apocalypse opened with $8.2 million on Thursday evening from early showings. $8.2 million The comic book film opened up in over 3,500 theaters and showings started at 7pm.
Apocalypse barley edged out the previous X-Men: Days of Future Past which earned $8.1 million in early showings.
The main competition for Apocalypse will be Disney’s Alice Through The Look Glass at the box office over this holiday weekend.
Memorial Day weekend has been popular for X-Men. 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand made $122.9M and X-Men: Days of Future Past earned $110.6M.
X-Men: Apocalypse is now in theaters!
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.
