‘XXX: Return of Xander Cage’ Falling Short To ‘Split’ Opening Weekend

XXX, Box Office, Split Vin Diesel has returned to the big screen and another popular franchise with xXx: Return of Xander Cage this weekend but early box office reporting is indicating that Xander Cage won’t hold up against M. Night Shyamalan’s SplitSplit will earn the top spot at the box office with $33.8M. xXx: Return of Xander Cage is looking to open with $19.5M.

The first film in the xXX franchise debuted in 2002 and opened with $44.5M, the sequel followed up with Ice Cube at the helm. Return of Xander Cage will see earnings that are 56% less compared to the original.

M. Night Shyamalan is continuing his success with Split, which is now the 4th best opening for Shyamalan behind Signs and The Village. James McAvoy has been earned praise for his performance in the film, playing a character that has 23 different personalities.

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude, “xXx: RETURN OF XANDER CAGE” will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.

Directed by D. J. Caruso, the film will star Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, Donnie Yen, Toni Collette, Nicky Jam, Tony Jaa, Brazilian soccer star Neymar Jr., Deepika Padukone, Kris Wu, Nina Dobrev, Rory McCann, Michael Bisping and Samuel L. Jackson.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage will be released in theaters on January 20, 2017.
