Zachary Levi ‘Honored And Greatly Humbled’ To Be Part Of DC Universe

Zachary Levi-ShazamIt didn’t take long for a lightning bolt to be thrown onto the chest of Zachary Levi. After news broke Friday of Levi’s casting as the titular role in Shazam!, director David F. Sandberg took to his Instagram to confirm the news. It also didn’t take long for Levi to express his gratitude to the fan community as well as his appreciation for DC as a whole.

On Saturday, Levi also went to Instagram to address the big news. And though Sandberg merely used a photo of Levi in a ThunderCats shirt, the actor himself decided to share a BossLogic image of himself as “the original Captain Marvel.” Check out Levi’s post below with the following caption:

Honored and greatly humbled to be a part of the #dcuniverse by bringing the original Captain Marvel to life. I am beside myself with gratitude, not only for this opportunity, but also the incredible outpouring of love and support from so many of you out there in the world. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be in the gym for the rest of forever. 🙏 (amazingly cool art courtesy of @bosslogic) #Shazam

Given Levi’s workout that’ll take place now to roughly the end of time, it probably won’t be long before the actor begins to share progress photos as he gets in shape — similar to Chris Pratt when he was prepping for Star-Lord.

Shazam! is being directed by Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) from a script written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Production on the project is expected to kick off in February of next year.

Shazam is a DC Comics character who first debuted in 1939 with the original name of Captain Marvel. Created by C.C. Beck and writer Bill Parker, the character was first published by Fawcett Comics. Shazam himself is the alter-ego of the aforementioned teenage Billy Batson who has the ability to say the word “Shazam,” and transform into an adult superhero with the power of six mythological gods after saying the word.

10 Characters Who Should Appear In The ‘Nightwing’ Movie

Previous1 of 11

Nightwing DCSo Michael Cera’s appearance as Dick Grayson in The LEGO Batman Movie wasn’t enough for all you Nightwing fans, huh? Well, Warner Bros. is listening and has decided to give Heroic Hollywood’s number one sidekick his own movie. The LEGO Batman Movie helmer Chris McKay has been named the director of a Nightwing movie no one saw coming. Nightwing’s place in the DC Extended Universe is up in the air. How long ago did he quit being Robin? Are he and Batman speaking right now? Why wasn’t he mentioned in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice?

While the movie will likely answer all those questions, I expect it will also serve as an introduction to a different corner of the Batman universe, similar to the upcoming Gotham City Sirens. Batman might be in it for a scene or two, but the movie will need a full supporting cast to help Nightwing appear as the kickass, sociable character he is. Bruce Wayne has got the brooding down, but former circus performer Dick Grayson knows how to have fun in a way his mentor doesn’t.
