‘Shazam! Director Confirms Joker Easter Egg In Zachary Levi Movie

Zachary Levi Shazam

Shazam! director David F. Sandberg has reminded fans that Zachary Levi’s Shazam exists in the same cinematic universe as the Joker.

If you weren’t sure that Zachary Levi’s Shazam! is part of or even belonged to the current DC extended Universe, director David Sandberg confirms it for you in his latest tweet.

Zachary Levi’s Shazam! was more than just the flash in the pan some people thought it would be. It’s actually a really fantastic film and as some fans are realizing, it’s also packed with some clever Easter eggs that give us a deeper look into the world of child-turned-hero Shazam.

A fan on Twitter posted a still image of a scene from Shazam! that shows Zachary Levi standing yards away from an Ace Chemicals sign in the background. Ace Chemicals is synonymous with fan favorite character the Joker, who we last saw in 2016’s Suicide Squad played by Jared Leto. Shazam! director David Sandberg responded to the fan by saying:

This is why #Shazam requires multiple viewings, to catch all the Easter eggs.

You can check out the Joker Easter egg below.

Although David Sandberg did not confirm or deny that the Ace Chemicals sign is more than just a cool Easter egg, it would be pretty awesome to see Shazam and the Joker meet in a future sequel.

What did you think of the director’s comments about the Joker Easter egg? Are there any other world building Easter eggs that you found in Shazam!? Let us know in the comments below!

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! is playing in theaters today!
