Star Trek 4 is currently being developed, but that doesn’t always confirm anything, according to Zachary Quinto, who has played Spock in the last three Star Trek films. Stopping by The Today Show, the actor gave an update on the status of the fourth movie.
“We’re waiting. I know they’re working on the script for another one, and we’ll see how that plays out. But the nice thing about that experience is that the time in between those big tentpole films allows us to go off and cultivate a lot of different creative experiences for ourselves.”
It was during the months leading up Star Trek Beyond, a film in the franchise that received generally positive critical and fan reception (in comparison to Star Trek Into Darkness anyway), that it was confirmed that both Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine had signed on for a fourth film to reprise their roles as Spock and James T. Kirk, respectively. Since then, not much has been heard about the project.
Quinto, however, is “hopeful that we’ll do another one, but there’s no guarantee” that it’ll happen. Since only the script is being developed at this point, it might be a while before we hear anything substantial. Star Trek 4 will have to also factor in the death of Anton Yelchin, who passed away last year. The actor played Chekov and the filmmakers will not be replace him with another actor in the same role.
