‘Avatar’: All 4 Sequels Will Feature Stephen Lang As The Main Villain

Stephen Lang James Cameron Avatar

Stephen Lang is set to reprise his role as Colonel Miles Quaritch in the upcoming Avatar sequels, despite the fact that his character was seemingly killed at the end of the first film. Lang’s unexpected return has prompted speculation on how the character might return and what role Quaritch will play in the saga. In an interview with Empire, director James Cameron revealed that Lang’s character will be the main antagonist across of four sequels.

Cameron confirmed Lang’s role in the sequels while discussing the new locations that will be explored:

“The interesting conceit of the Avatar sequels is it’s pretty much the same characters. There are new characters and a lot of new settings and creatures, so I’m taking characters you know and putting them in unfamiliar places and moving them on this greater journey. But it’s not a whole bunch of new characters every time. There’s not a new villain every time, which is interesting. Same guy. Same motherf—-r through all four movies. He is so good and he just gets better. I know Stephen Lang is gonna knock this out of the park.”

Of course, science fiction offers a plethora of ways for Lang’s character to return, so fans can continue to speculate on how the Colonel might have survived two fatal shots to the chest.

The Avatar sequels will star Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, C. C. H. Pounder, Matt Gerald, Cliff Curtis, and Oona Chaplin.

Avatar 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 18, 2020.

The additional three follow-ups are scheduled to be released on December 17, 2021, December 20, 2024, and December 19, 2025.
