Scott Buck is officially the showrunner of Iron Fist for Marvel and Netflix!

SHARED EXCLUSIVE with our Heroic Ally James Viscardi over at Comicbook.com. Last weekend after the holiday, I got tipped off to a name. The name of the individual getting the showrunner gig for Iron Fist – the upcoming Marvel Netflix show about martial artist Danny Rand.

So after Gunngate two weeks ago, and quite frankly, being a tad paranoid, I reached out to my colleague Jim, the Editor in Chief of comicbook.com. Jim has solid sourcing over on the Netflix side of Marvel and I asked him to confirm. He did. Scott Buck is now confirmed, and here we are. BOOM!

I know I have to rebuild my credibility with some of the readers and obviously the sourcing on the scoop was solid. However, I rather be safe than sorry. So I didn’t mind sharing the exclusive with Jim who is a good guy since he went and did the heavy lifting.

Scott Buck is a solid choice who has writing credits on HBO’s Six Feet Under, Rome, Showtime’s Dexter, Everybody Love Raymond, Coach, and The Oblongs.  Scott Buck is also a friend of Melissa Rosenberg, the showrunner of Jessica Jones – the other Marvel show currently airing on Netflix. I’m sure she put in a good word for him.

Through concentration, Iron Fist aka Danny  Rand can harness his spiritual energy, or chi, to augment his physical and mental capabilities to peak human levels. The official synopsis is:

“Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”

So much for those Iron Fist in trouble rumors. I never believed those rumors in the first place because it came from outlets with little credibility. Hiring a showrunner is the major first step in getting a show off the ground.

Luke Cage is currently in production and set to premiere summer 2016. With Scott Buck now hired as showrunner, I don’t Iron Fist premiering on Netflix till 2017 at the earliest. I would love to see Iron Fist and Luke Cage spinoff from The Defenders and do Heroes For Hire. Who wouldn’t want to see Power Man & Iron Fist!

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM MARVEL

“The Netflix Original Series “Marvel’s Iron Fist” has found its showrunner and Executive Producer in Scott Buck (“Dexter,” “Six Feet Under”)!

Buck previously served as Executive Producer and showrunner of “Dexter” for the series’ final four years. He has also written for “Six Feet Under” and “Rome,” among other series.

“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and “Iron Fist” to life with Marvel on Netflix,” said Buck.

Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

“Marvel’s Iron Fist” is the fourth series as part of an overall deal between Marvel Television and Netflix, which has already released the critically-acclaimed first seasons of “Marvel’s Daredevil” and “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” with “Marvel’s Luke Cage” premiering in 2016. All four heroes will then unite in the mini-series event “Marvel’s The Defenders.””
