2ND UPDATE: Colin Trevorrow will NOT be brought out on stage today at Hall H at the Star Wars panel.

UPDATE: Due to how late I scored the Colin Trevorrow scoop last night, I was able to follow up this morning with further sourcing. From what I being told, Trevorrow has been in play for months For Star Wars: Episode 9 which is also the reason he won’t return to direct Jurassic World 2.

Colin Trevorrow went on the record saying,

“Jurassic Park is like Star Wars. Different directors can give a different taste to each movie. I would be involved in some way, but not as director.”

Attention to detail folks. See how he brought up the Star Wars clue in his comment? My colleague Peter Sciretta over at Slashfilm who has pretty close ties to the folks at Lucasfilm, had the following to add in his coverage of the story on why Colin Trevorrow got the job.

“I’ve heard that producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall really loved working with Trevorrow. He’s a great collaborator, a filmmaker with a vision, but not one who can’t take a note. He has proven himself able to handle the stress of a big budget franchise production, so it wouldn’t surprise me if Trevorrow ended up being sought for a Star Wars film.”

See the Kennedy/Marshall/Spielberg connection?

My other colleague Drew McWeeney over at Hitfix added,

“His tremendous success with “Jurassic World,” a fairly high-stakes job in its own right, has changed everything for Trevorrow, and if this is indeed announced during the Comic-Con panel, then he’s off and running for what will be a monumental adventure.”
