Mads Mikkelsen Teases The Return Of Kaecilius In A Future Marvel Film

Could the villainous Kaecilius return in a future Marvel movie? Doctor Strange star Mads Mikkelsen shares his thoughts after the jump.

Mads Mikkelsen Doctor Strange Kaecilius Marvel

Mads Mikkelsen, like many brilliant actors before him, joined theย Marvel Cinematic Universe for one reason, and one reason only: to play a badass villain. In this monthโ€™sย Doctor Strange, theย Casino Royale star portraysย Kaecilius, the first real foe for Benedict Cumberbatchโ€™s titular character. In the film, it is revealed that the character was a student ofย Tilda Swintonโ€™s The Ancient One, before going rogue and finding power in dark magic. Minor spoilers ahead, by the way. In the filmโ€™s climax, Doctor Strange bargains withย Dormammu, asking him to leave Earth, and take his followers with him. Of course, Mikkelsenโ€™sย Kaecilius is one of them.

In a new interview with CinemaBlend, Mads Mikkelsen revealed if he was keen to return to the role in an inevitable sequel:

“I donโ€™t know. He was not looking too sharp in the end of this movie, but you never know.”

Of course, Mads Mikkelsen may be teasing us, but who knows? The MCU is such a vast and unique pool that we really have no clue on what could happen next. Unlike many MCU villains, Mikkelsenโ€™s character was not killed off in his first appearance, which leaves the possibility of a return well and truly open. When Cinemablendโ€™s Eric Eisenberg told Mikkelsen this, he responded:

“Yeah, itโ€™s like [snaps] a blink of an eye away.”

So, what do you guys think? Would you like to see theย Rogue One star return to the role? Personally, I found his character to be one of the filmโ€™s finest elements. If Mads Mikkelsen wanted to return in Avengers: Infinity War orย Doctor Strange 2, you would not see me complaining!

Doctor Strange is in theatres now, but you can catch Mikkelsen in the upcomingย Star Wars anthology film,ย Rogue One, which hits theatres on December 15.
