Empire Magazine has revealed a new look at Will Smith opposite co-star Joel Edgerton in the upcoming Netflix original film Bright directed by David Ayer.
Bright follows Smith as a Los Angeles police officer in an alternate present day where monsters walk the Earth alongside humans. Smith is forced to work with an Orc (Edgerton) in order to find a powerful wand that dangerous forces are willing to kill for.
The magazine confirmed new details regarding the backstory for the film revealing there was a dark war on Earth 2000 years ago that humans won against the likes of the Tolkein-esque creatures. Rather than banishing said creatures, they were integrated into society instead, ultimately leading to Nick Jacoby (Edgerton) becoming the first orc police officer.
“It’s totally maddening,” Ayer told Empire. “[Joel] wanted the challenge. I think it has driven him mad. But it helps for character and performance, so it’s fine.”
The new image reveals Smith and Edgerton with the elvish Tikka (Lucy Fry) as they takecover mid-shootout in what looks to be a lounge. You can check out the image below.
The film stars Will Smith, Joel Edgerton, Noomi Rapace, Edgard Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz, Brad William Henke, Lucy Fry, Chris Browning, and Kenneth Choi. Here’s the official synopsis:
Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward (Will Smith) and Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.
Bright is set to hit Netflix in December 2017.
