‘Suicide Squad’ Members Headed To ‘Gotham’

With the unprecedented August box office success of  Suicide Squad over the weekend, we can expect to see some of our favorite villains make their way to Gotham. Executive producers said today that they will be introducing proto-versions of Suicide Squad members Harley Quinn and Killer Croc. The show will be shaping their rich history how that fits into the DC Batman narrative.

Can we expect to see the beloved Harley Quinn this season? Not so fast, says executive producer John Stephens. Stephens had this to say while discussing the possibility with reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour:

Not necessarily, a lot of those characters, because they’re in Suicide Squad, we’re not going to be seeing them this season. We will be seeing proto-versions of some of those characters; we’ll see a proto-Killer Croc version. And we’ll be seeing a character — perhaps not this season, but in times to come — who can be a forerunner for Harley Quinn.

Fans of the show will recall that Gotham introduced the character of Jerome this way during the second season.  We can expect to see more of the proto-version of The Joker as Gotham aims to deepen the myth of The Joker and Batman and how that feud takes shape.

We really imagined developing the myth of the Joker at the same time we’re developing the myth of Batman. We really wanted to stretch it through multiple seasons. This year, you have these underground movements that have started to talk about Jerome and what he represented, setting the stage for, perhaps if there’s a season 4, hopefully we’ll bring that back in a much bigger way; you’ll see these different versions of the Joker myth that developed with Jerome and other characters, that when you put those pieces together, you’ll go, ‘Oh, eventually that’s what the Joker will become.

Gotham returns Monday, Sept. 19 at 9/8 PM CST on Fox.
