Aaron Pierre To Play John Stewart In James Gunn’s Green Lantern TV Series

The DC Universe has found its John Stewart!

Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart in the upcoming Green Lantern TV series produced by DC Studios. Pierre will take on the role of the iconic Green Lantern, joining the DC Universe in one of the most anticipated projects under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership at DC Studios.

Pierre joins the Green Lantern series following the recent casting of Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan. The two actors will star together in the upcoming DC Universe series set to premiere on HBO, focusing on the intergalactic adventures of the iconic Green Lantern Corps with a True Detective-type story.

Outside of the DC Universe, Pierre can currently be seen in Netflix’s Rebel Ridge, which held the #1 spot worldwide for three weeks. He will also voice the lead role in Disney’s Mufasa, set for release in December. Pierre’s recent work includes portraying Malcolm X in NatGeo’s Genius: MLK/X, as well as roles in Garth Davis’ Foe and Barry Jenkins’ The Underground Railroad.

At the helm as showrunner and executive producer of LANTERNS is Chris Mundy, known for his work on HBO’s True Detective: Night Country and Ozark. Mundy is co-writing the series with Damon Lindelof, known for HBO’s Watchmen and The Leftovers, and Eisner Award winner Tom King, recognized for Mister Miracle and Supergirl. Both Lindelof and King will also serve as executive producers for the series.

According to the official logline, LANTERNS “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
