This year’s CinemaCon attendees were treated to an exciting sneak peek of the highly-anticipated Marvel movie Kraven the Hunter. The footage offered a first look at Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train, Kick-Ass) donning the iconic fur of the titular Spider-Man villain.
According TheWrap, Sony’s Kraven the Hunter presentation “began in a rural countryside where a handful of apparent mercenaries are confronted and hack-and-slashed to death (lots of blood) by Kraven. Russell Crowe, as the dad, provides the “what you are and what you’ll be” narration, noting that he and his son are both predators. The next beat concerns a snowy action scene. We move to the city where he is told that he’s just another man hitting for a trophy. The final beat sees Kraven sitting in an office chair and spearing a baddie who walks into the room. We then get a final bit of action before a cryptic reveal of the Rhino. The tagline is ‘Nothing survives the hunt.'”
Set to be released on October 6, 2023, Kraven the Hunter will tell the story of Sergei Kravinoff’s journey to becoming one of Marvel’s most notorious villains. Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven is rated R and boasts an impressive cast, including Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott and Russell Crowe.
Who is Kraven the Hunter?
A ruthless big game hunter who seeks the ultimate challenge in hunting Spider-Man, Kraven was first introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. In the comics, Kraven is known for his physical strength, expert tracking skilll and his use of a serum that gives him enhanced abilities.
One of the most striking aspects of the Kraven the Hunter footage was Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s outfit, which featured the signature fur coat of Sergei Kravinoff. The coat has been a staple of Kraven’s look since his comic book debut and fans are excited to see it translated to the big screen. The coat is a nod to Kraven’s roots as a big game hunter, adding to his menacing presence.
Kraven the Hunter was written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk, with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and David Householter on board as producers. While the footage did not reveal much about the plot of Sony’s latest live-action Marvel adaptation, it did provide a glimpse into its tone and style.
As the release date of Kraven the Hunter approaches, Marvel fans can expect more footage and information to be released. For now, the CinemaCon footage has given us a taste of what’s to come, and it looks like Kraven is poised to make a big impact on the superhero movie landscape.
