A brand new image from Empire teases Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren in an all new look in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker.
With the latest entry in the Star Wars saga set to hit theatres in December, we’re started to get more details surrounding the film, including Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. The last time we saw him, Kylo Ren had recently become Supreme Leader and his hubris had gotten into the way of him capturing The Resistance. Kylo Ren had also smashed his iconic helmet when he was being berated by Snoke earlier in the film.
In an exclusive cover story by Empire, the image along with a brand new set of information and interviews were released. In the image provided by Empire, we see Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren resisting some force of energy in a First Order hangar bay. You can see him holding his rebuilt mask while stormtroopers are failing to hold against the energy in the background.

We’re not exactly sure what this force is that Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren must push back against but we can speculate that it’s Rey. On the far right of the image, you can see that the energy pushback is a bright blue, just like Rey’s lightsaber. Coupled with the fact that this image was paired alongside a brief quote by co-writer Chris Terrio that discussed Kylo Ren and Rey’s force-conversation that were introduced by Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
“Some of the most interesting scenes in The Last Jedi are the conversations between Rey and Ren. We’ve tried to pick up that complicated relationship that really has been present ever since the interrogation in Episode VII. When Ren takes off his mask, there’s a nakedness about him with Rey that he doesn’t express to anyone else. Rian developed that in fascinating ways and we’ve been able to develop it even further.”
Seeing as Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren has his mask off in this scene and there is a shade of blue pouring into the image, it could be viable to imagine that he’s speaking to Rey. Even then, this would also be the first time their connection is revealed to the public as there are stormtroopers in the back. Only time will tell who or what Adam Driver’s character is fighting against.
