For a moment in the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it seemed that Adam Warlock was a surefire bet to make his appearance in the third Guardians film. But with that film’s production brought to a screeching and indefinite halt following Disney firing James Gunn, it seems that the fate of Adam Warlock is left up in the air. And according to one of the writers Infinity Gauntlet and The Infinity War, it could remain that way for quite some time.
At the ACE Comic-Con in Chicago, Jim Starlin, one of the writers of the Infinity Gauntlet and Infinity War storylines in Marvel Comics didn’t have a positive update in regards to the inclusion of Adam Warlock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Admittedly, Starlin works on the comic side of things and might not be as in the know compared to those working on the films themselves, but he let us know what’s already public knowledge: production on the third Guardians of the Galaxy film is on hold. And with that, as is Adam Warlock’s future in the MCU:
“At the time we’re recording this, the third Guardians movie is on indefinite hold. I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have my suspicions who they’re going to use for a director, but I’m not in that loop, so my guess is as good as anything you read online.”
Indeed, his guess is as good as anything we might read online. Even this, for example. But again, with James Gunn having been shown the door by the House of Mouse, production is on hold until Disney and Marvel Studios find a new director, but even then, a third Guardians film may not be the priority when Marvel Studios already has the likes of Spider-Man: Far From Home, The Eternals, the Black Widow film, Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2, and other films coming down the line in the MCU. Oh, and Avengers 4. Did you forget about that one? Well, looks like you may as well forget about Adam Warlock for the time being.
But hey, suppose Warlock was to be utilized in another way in the hands of another director. Would you want to see that? Let us know how you’d like to see the future of Adam Warlock in the MCU handled in light of James Gunn’s firing and stay tuned.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was directed by James Gunn and starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, and Kurt Russell.
