Will Phil Coulson be the same on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. after murdering Grant Ward (Brett Dalton)? That is the question that many Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans found themselves asking after the mid-season finale aired.
Clark Gregg opened up to TVGuide.com about how Coulson will be handling that life-changing and shocking moment.
“I don’t think he comes back with any easy answer. I think in the moment, it felt like the only course of action possible to him. I don’t think he’s going to know for some time if this was a terrible mistake that changes him and maybe turns him into a super-villain – it becomes, really, a show about a team run by a super-villain – or not.”
Another moment of contention with fans was when Coulson returned from Maveth and gave Fitz (Iain de Caestecker) a stern yet villainous look. Turns out the moment didn’t have any malice towards Fitz.
“He just didn’t care too much about anything in that moment. And that’s a dark place that Fitz saw him in, and that’s a dark place that he goes back to his team in.”
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday, March 8 at 9/8c on ABC with the first episode titled, “Bouncing Back.” During the season finale of Agent Carter, ABC aired an extended trailer for the mid-season premiere.
In the midseason premiere, “Bouncing Back,” in the aftermath of his trip to Maveth, Coulson is more determined than ever to get to Gideon Malick and put an end to Hydra once and for all. Meanwhile, Daisy and the team encounter more Inhumans who have powers like they’ve never seen before, but will they be friends or enemies of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
