Major spoilers ahead for Titans season three.

The third season of Titans made the official move to HBO Max, making it more accessible to casual fans than ever. More eyeballs didn’t translate to safer storytelling as Titans is still one of the darkest and plot-twist-heavy superhero shows airing right now. The third season wrapped up yesterday, leaving more questions than answers, particularly for Alan Ritchson’s Hawk, who may be done with the show for good.

Earlier this season, Alan Ritchson’s Hawk was gunned down by Jason Todd, leaving his fate unknown. Hawk did return in the latest episode, saving both Tim Drake and Donna Troy in the afterlife. Hawk makes it a point to confirm that he’ll be staying in purgatory to guide lost souls. It’s a decision that’s clearly influenced by the actor actually moving on to star in Jack Reacher. Nevertheless, it begs the question, does Hawk have a future in Titans?

Alan Ritchson revealed that he and the producers of the HBO Max series will certainly entertain future appearances, though nothing is, of course, set in stone.

It looks like the door is wide open for Hawk to return in the future. However, what caused the character to be retired in the first place? Some might think it’s because of Ritchson taking on a lead role in Amazon’s Jack Reacher, but it looks like his appointment in the spy-thriller was a result of Hawk calling it curtains. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly, the HBO Max star discussed how he has ready to try on a new role.

“I think I was ready to move on and try something else and enter a more mature phase of life. And strangely I ran into it immediately in Jack Reacher, this next role, but no, I was surprised by the call. I was content with the show. I really enjoyed the character, and I enjoyed the schedule.”

While it is disappointing that Hawk won’t be a mainstay in Titans, it’s great that Alan Ritchson left the show on solid terms and is willing to return. Now that the third season has come to a close, fans are now left wondering what the team will be up to next season.

Here is the official synopsis for Titans season three:

“Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find where they belong. In season three, circumstances draw our heroes to Gotham City, where they will reunite with old friends and face new threats.”
