Academy Award winner Alexandre Desplat will compose the score for Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.

Marvel Studios will launch the next phase of its cinematic universe with Black Widow, a standalone film that will offer audiences more insight into the complicated history of Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff. Yesterday, Marvel Studios released a new extended look at Black Widow and the credits featured at the end of the preview confirmed who will pen the score for the Scarlett Johansson film.

Alexandre Desplat will write the music for Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, marking the first time the two-time Academy Award winner will work on a Marvel Studios project. In addition to winning Oscar gold for his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel and The Shape of Water, Alexandre Desplat has received 10 nominations for composing the scores of films such as The King’s Speech, Argo, The Imitation Game, and, most recently, Little Women.

In Marvel Studios’ action-packed spy thriller “Black Widow,” Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

Directed by Cate Shortland from a script written by Eric Pearson based on a story by Jac Schaeffer and Ned Benson, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, Ray Winstone, Olivier Richters, and Rachel Weisz.

Black Widow will be released in theaters on May 1, 2020.
