Alicia Silverstone Thinks She’d Do Better As Batgirl Now Than In 1997

Batman & Robin actress Alicia Silverstone has said that she'd give a better performance if she played the character of Batgirl again.

The less that’s said about Batman & Robin, the better – but one thing to the movie’s credit is that it introduced us to Batgirl on the big screen for the first time. Actress Alicia Silverstone reflects on her role and mentions that she’s up for playing the character again if need be.

Silverstone had a chat with USA Today in part to promote her role in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, which opens this Friday. Inevitably, her most (in)famous movie was discussed, and she reflected quite candidly on it by saying that she thinks she could do better:

“I feel like I could do a much better Batgirl now than I did then. It would be fun to tackle it again… Because I’m older and my acting is better. I know I would bring so much more to it. I was just a baby. It was a different thing. But I had fun back then. And I think it would be fun to do it again.”

Silverstone also noted that if she were to play a superhero again, she’d want a more comfortable costume that wouldn’t be too difficult to get in and out of. While Joss Whedon is working on writing/producing/directing a Batgirl movie, it’s not likely that his version of the character will be pushing 40 – but perhaps Silverstone could work out getting a cameo or supporting role in the movie. On that, she said the following:

“I’m open to anything, whatever people bring to me and whatever the best choice is for that time.”

It seems like this would be an easy opportunity for DC to take advantage of having a fun little cameo, but it’s understandable if they wouldn’t want to bring up memories of a movie that a lot of people really don’t like. Again, the less said about Batman & Robin, the better.
