Alicia Silverstone praised Leslie Grace’s Batgirl suit and opened up about a potential return as the character.
Leslie Grace is set to make her cinematic debut as Batgirl for HBO Max’s film of the same name. Batgirl will be the first time the iconic Batfamily member will spearhead her own film, but this isn’t the character’s live-action debut. Clueless star Alicia Silverstone first played the role of Batgirl in Batman & Robin. Seeing as the film was maligned at the time of release, Silverstone never got to reprise her role as the character.
In a recent interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Alicia Silverstone was asked to touch upon Leslie Grace’s upcoming stint as Batgirl. The Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed star went on to praise the star’s Batgirl suit, which was unveiled last month.
“I think she’s going to be wonderful. Her costume looks amazing and I’m happy for her. She must be very excited. Her costume looks way more comfortable than mine was [Laughs]. And a lot less vulnerable!”
As for a return? Alicia Silverstone is open to whatever the universe throws at her. Michael Keaton most notably decided to return to the role of Batman after decades, so the jury isn’t out on a potential Silverstone return.
“I don’t know. I’m open to whatever the world brings me, right? I’ll see what happens and flow.”
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl, which is being planned as a movie for the WarnerMedia streaming service HBO Max. The two most recently directed the 2020 box office hit Bad Boys for Life and episodes of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel. Christina Hodson, the screenwriter behind Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the script.
DC’s Batgirl movie is set to follow the Barbara Gordon iteration of the Gotham City heroine. Barbara was last seen in a live-action feature film in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, with Alicia Silverstone playing the iconic DC Comics character. J.K. Simmons also stars as Commissioner Gordon, Brendan Fraser appearing as the villain Firefly, and Michael Keaton as Batman.
Batgirl will hit HBO Max sometime this year. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on the upcoming HBO Max film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
