Danny McBride Reveals Details About His ‘Alien: Covenant’ Role

We recently got our first official look at Danny McBride on the set of Alien: Covenant and now the actor has finally shed some light on his role in the highly anticipated movie. Speaking with Rolling Stone to promote his new HBO show Vice Principals, the actor revealed that he’ll be playing the pilot of the colony ship Covenant:

“I’m the pilot of the spaceship Covenant, which is a colonization ship, searching for a planet where we might start life anew. I run the ship.”

The actor was also asked about working with green screen on this project, but it looks like most of what we’ll see will be practical effects:

“No, I didn’t know if it would be all green screen, but most of the stuff is practical effects: when you’re running from an alien it’s really a dude in an alien suit coming after you! The sets are incredible and you’re in them: We go through some inclement weather at one point on the spaceship and this whole gigantic set is on a gimbal, shaking up and down. You don’t have to use your imagination.”

Speaking of practical effects, here’s a cool behind-the-scenes video of an artist creating a Xenomorph’s hand from the Alien Anthology Twitter page.

Directed by Ridley Scott, Alien: Covenant stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Noomi Rapace, Danny McBride, Demian Bichir, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo and Billy Crudup. The movie opens in theaters on October 6, 2017.
