A new Alien: Covenant featurette has been released, showing off the movie’s practical effects and emphasizing director Ridley Scott’s return to the terrifying universe he helped create.
JoBlo released this featurette earlier today. In it, Scott describes his experience with the Alien franchise, while stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterson, and Danny McBride all take turns describing their excitement to be involved with the new film and the world that’s been built around the Xenomorphs.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in Alien with Alien: Covenant, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Alien: Covenant arrives on May 19, 2017. The movie’s cast includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Guy Pearce, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Jussie Smollett, Callie Hernandez, Nathaniel Dean, Alexander England, Benjamin Rigby, and James Franco. In spite of the above press release suggesting that the Alien prequel series will encompass a trilogy, there are plans for two more Alien prequel films – an interquel set between Prometheus and Covenant tentatively titled Alien: Awakening, and a direct sequel to Covenant that does not yet have a name. Scott intends to make the most out of the franchise for as long as he can, stating that if they want to do six more movies, he’d be down with directing all of them.
