Amber Heard has opened up about her feelings towards Johnny Depp in the wake of their defamation trial, saying it “wasn’t about him.”

The lengthy and heavily publicized defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard revolved around Heard’s op-ed for the Washington Post, discussing her experiences of domestic abuse. While Depp was not named in the piece, the Pirates of the Caribbean star claimed it heavily implied he had abused Heard, an allegation he refuted.

Ultimately, the jury found in Johnny Depp’s favor and he was awarded over $10 million in damages for all three statements his case claimed were defamatory in Amber Heard’s op-ed. Heard received $2 million in compensatory damages. Her countersuit had listed three comments made by Depp’s former lawyer, but only one was found to be defamatory.

‘No Bad Feelings Or Ill Will’

In the second part of Amber Heard’s interview on Today, the Aquaman actress addressed the intentions behind her op-ed piece and her current feelings towards Johnny Depp. Despite the jury’s verdict after the six-week trial, Heard has insisted the piece wasn’t about her marriage to Depp.

The actress claimed the article at the heart of the trial “wasn’t about my relationship with Johnny… What the op-ed was about was me loaning my voice to a bigger cultural conversation that we were having at the time.” Asked about her current feelings towards her ex-husband, Amber Heard went on to say:

“I love him. I loved him with all my heart. And I tried the best I could to make a deeply broken relationship work. I couldn’t. No bad feelings or ill will towards him at all. I know that might be hard to understand or it might be really easy to understand. If you’ve ever loved anyone it should be easy.”

The interview was Amber Heard’s first full sit-down interview since the trial concluded. It previously saw her claim that she “always told the truth” throughout the trial.
