As you can definitely tell from watching it, they took heavily from the original Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic. From its first announcement, fans had no idea of what to expect from the show.

The original comic  tells the story of a small town preacher named Jesse Custer, who is accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis. Because Genesis was created by the unnatural union of an angel and a demon, the possessing power is potentially the most powerful thing the universe. Custer travels across the US in an attempt to literally find God, who he discovers has abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born.

Adapted from its source material by Seth Rogen and Even Goldberg, it seems ‘Preacher’ has been given justice and will be true to its roots. Hopefully fans will respond to it as strongly as they have to AMC’s other comic hit, ‘The Walking Dead.’

AMC’s ‘Preacher’ is set to premiere this upcoming Sunday night on May 22.

Based on the popular, cult comic book franchise of the same name, Preacher” is a supernatural, twisted and darkly comedic drama that follows a West Texas preacher named Jesse Custer, who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that causes him to develop a highly unusual power. Jesse, his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip and an Irish vagabond named Cassidy come together and when they do, they are thrust into a crazy world populated by a cast of characters from Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.
