Back in 2015, Transparent star Amy Landecker was cast in an unknown role in Marvel’s Doctor Strange. As the film hit American shores this weekend, the actress has finally revealed details about her secret part. To the many readers of Heroic Hollywood who have seen the movie, if you do not recall the actress, do not be worried about your eyesight. In the movie, Landecker actually portrayed one of the doctors at the hospital at the start of the film. In a new interview with the actress, she revealed some more components of her part, as well as Marvel’s casting process:
“I have to preface this by saying I was at an event and someone said that I was in the credits. So, it’s possible that I’m still in this film. But to my knowledge, I was cut out of this film. But I don’t know. [Laughs.] So basically, the way Marvel works is, you don’t get to read the script at all. And I did audition for this part, so I knew it was a doctor in a surgical kind of scene, and I knew it was with Benedict, and she flirts with him a little and it was kind of fun. And there was a take where they had me put a mask on. But I thought that was just to kind of see what I looked like in a mask. Which is one of those funny Hollywood things, as if it was going to change whether or not I got cast. [Laughs.]”
So, yes. Do not fear for your deteriorating eye sight, you may have missed a part that simply was not there. However, as ComicBook.com‘s Jay Jayson points out, the actress may have been the nurse who appears surprised when Benedict Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange guesses the correct year and name of an obscure song. Interestingly, the actress was sought out for the role by the film’s director Scott Derrickson, who was a huge fan of her role in the Coen Brothers’ A Simple Man:
“I couldn’t figure out why I was invited in the first place. I was like, “What am I doing here? They flew someone from LA. I feel like someone local could have easily played this.”
Did you guys catch Landecker’s part in Doctor Strange? Would you like to see the actress return to the MCU in the near future?
