It’s been quite the past six months for Angelina Jolie to say the least. Since her divorce from Brad Pitt, the actress has largely stayed out of the spotlight. Still, Jolie isn’t done with Hollywood just yet. Her recent directorial undertaking, First They Killed My Father, is hitting theaters overseas. Beyond that, The Hollywood Reporter has been digging into what might bring Jolie back to US movie screens.
Though 2014’s Maleficent wasn’t necessarily expected to do well, it defied most expectations and garnered enough attention to prompt Disney to consider making a second entry. After all, this is the era of remakes and sequels, right? Apparently, sources are saying that Jolie is “mulling a number of acting offers,” including reprising the titular role in a potential Maleficent 2.
It seems like Maleficent 2 may be much more likely than another project Jolie is reportedly considering, however. With rumors of a remake of Bride of Frankenstein swirling for quite some time now, there’s potential for Jolie to take on the primary role in the Universal film. However, “that now may be years down the road, as the studio is still searching for a writer.”
With Jolie’s extensive experience and talent, there are numerous pathways for her to take. Maleficent 2 would most likely be a relatively safe bet, whereas Bride of Frankenstein is a little more nebulous in terms of overall potential. Lending her voice to the character Tigress in Kung Fu Panda 3 was the last acting gig Jolie took on, so seeing her perform onscreen in the near future would be a welcome return. As with most things however, only time will tell.
