Marvel films have transcended the “super-hero” genre and have taken inspiration from various genre films to aid their characters’ respective solo films, with Spider-Man: Homecoming taking cues from the teen dramas of John Hughes to Captain America: Civil War taking inspiration from Spy Thrillers. It turns out that Peyton Reed, the man behind the upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp will be taking cues from romantic comedies.

The news comes courtesy of Kinometro, who attended the Kinorynok event in Russia, and you can read their translated report below:

“Completed the presentation of projects from Marvel: BLACK PANTHER (February 15), which was presented by a fresh and rather invigorating trailer, and MAN-ANTS AND OCS . The last picture, the rental of which is scheduled for July 5, 2018, Elena Brodskaya called “the first romkomom from Marvel.” On this project was shown a promo video, in general terms introducing the details of the plot and characters.”

“Man-Ants and OCS” is definitely Ant-Man and The Wasp, because what else could it be? Beyond that, “romkomom” is certainly romantic comedy. This news more than certainly makes sense, as Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne began a budding romance in the first film, which is sure to grow all the more in the sequel.

Information regarding the Ant-Man sequel has been slim, though we do know that Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym is searching for his wife, who is missing in the Quantum Realm. With a central plot that’s focused on love, it would make sense that Peyton Reed would want to frame the film as a romantic comedy.
