Anthony Daniels has already cemented himself as one of the most iconic actors in Star Wars canon, playing C-3PO since the original 1977 film. Recently, Daniels discussed his opinion on the not so iconic, Jar Jar Binks, stating like many of us, he is not a fan.
Daniels was speaking to a crowd at a Q&A at Fan Expo 2017 when the topic of the controversial Jar Jar Binks arose:
“Jar Jar was created by George Lucas and he employed an actor, Ahmed Best, who is a terrific actor. Terrific mover. Terrific, inventive brain. Highly intelligent. Did exactly what George asked him to do. George’s son Jett was thrilled by that performance that Ahmed did perfectly, but Jett was 10 years old. Now, I wasn’t, so for me Jar Jar was a bit like the Ewoks. I’ve grown past that stage. 10-year-olds, 11-year-olds, eight-year-olds adored Jar Jar. It was a very, very good thing to do… so I hugely admire Ahmed Best. He got very bad press for doing it… and Jar Jar was not for me.”
The veteran actor did offer a lot of support for Jar Jar actor Ahmed Best, who received a lot of criticism for the role, something Daniels has dealt with in the past. Daniels will next be seen reprising his role as C-3PO when Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens this Holiday season.
The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, Kelly Marie Tran, Lupita Nyong’o, and Andy Serkis.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15, 2017. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
8 ‘Star Wars’ Spin-Off Movies We Really Want To See
May the 4th be with you, everyone! Even on May the 8th! With Star Wars weekend in the rear-view mirror, it’s still a great time to kick back, get out your old glow-in-the-dark lightsaber toys and Darth Vader Halloween masks, and pop in those original trilogy DVDs. Maybe even all 8 currently-released films, if you’re up for the challenge (both mental and otherwise). Speaking of which, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story just came out on Blu-ray, marking the first home release of many Star Wars spin-off movies to come.
Of these, only one future title has been confirmed – Han Solo: A Star Wars Story, to be released in May of 2018. Beyond that, we know Disney had at least two more planned, and probably more down the line. And why not? The Star Wars universe is so ripe for exploration. There are so many characters we were introduced to in the Saga movies that could easily get their own film. And it doesn’t stop there. The legacy of the Jedi and the Sith go back thousands of years, opening up virtually endless possibilities of story material.
Given this abundance of material just waiting to be tapped into, Heroic Hollywood decided to celebrate the Star Wars holiday by compiling a list of the Star Wars stand-alone movies we’d most like to see. While some of the films on this list are more likely to be developed than others, they each share one unifying factor: they’d all be freakin’ awesome!
