One of Amber Heard’s multiple trainers for Aquaman has revealed the details of the intense training the actress underwent for her role in the swashbuckling action adventure from director James Wan.
Heard began training for her role in the DCEU as Mera, Queen of Atlantis, back in February and has posted several photos including one of her and co-star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as well as a video revealing her fight training throughout her preparation for the film.
Gunnar Peterson, a personal trainer known for his work with athletes and celebrities explained in a recent interview with People that the actress “wanted to deliver for the character.” Peterson revealed that he trained Heard for four to five times a week, “for a non-stop, no-breaks hour with me, and THEN she went to her fight training, which was rigorous!”. He went on to explain that they focused on full-body fitness in her training, going on to praise Heard as an athlete herself:
“Everything was athletically based. We trained movements, not muscles. Squat presses, sled work and lots of work in a rotational plane against resistance. She is a true athlete.”
Peterson added that their “unrelenting” workouts were handled with ease due to Heard’s dedication, explaining that without her commitment, she would not have been able to achieve the results she did:
“She was so consistent. Without her being so committed, the results would not have happened. She could not have been better! If I could bottle her drive and conviction I’d sell that as a pre-workout drink!”
