Fans of the Aquaman series were given a sneak peek at the upcoming DC Univese sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom during the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas. TheWrap has revealed a description of the footage, which includes a glimpse at the plot and some of the action-packed scenes in the movie.

The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom CinemaCon teaser opens with Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry holding a baby, presumably his son, as he contemplates his role as king of Atlantis. “I’m supposed to be a king. To bring the land and sea together. But now, I feel the tide shifting,” Arthur says in a voiceover.

The Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom footage also features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta wielding a powerful Black Trident, teasing the return of the fan-favorite DC Comics villain. Amber Heard’s Mera also makes a surprise appearance, wearing a new white costume.

Aquaman’s father notes that the most heroic thing to do is to not give up, with the footage also showing Arthur Curry joining forces with his brother Orm. The teaser ends with a thrilling shot of Aquaman and Black Manta leaping into the air at each other.

Jason Momoa made his debut as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opened in theaters in March 2016. The following year, Momoa was featured alongside the rest of the DC Universe heroes in Justice League, before reprising the role for his Aquaman standalone movie, which is the highest-grossing DC Comics feature to date. His character will next be seen in Aquaman and the Last Kingdom, which arrives on December 20th.

The future of the DC Universe

James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room and a unified storyline across film, television, animation and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.

The FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
