A new Aquaman animated miniseries from James Wan is currently in development for HBO Max.
James Wan’s Aquaman took everyone by surprise by just how successful it was. During its theatrical lifetime, James Wan’s film grossed over $1B at the worldwide box office and was generally well-received by critics. This immediately sparked talk of a sequel and a number of spin-offs including one focused on the sea monsters known as The Trench. However, it looks like Warner Bros has something a little different in store for Aquaman on HBO Max.
The new animated miniseries titled Aquaman: King of Atlantis is currently in development for HBO Max. James Wan is set to serve as an executive producer with Victor Courtright and Mary Harplen-Gras set to serve as the showrunners for the HBO Max series. The HBO Max miniseries is currently set to air three episodes. Each episode will follow Aquaman on his adventures.

The series begins with Aquaman’s first day on the job as king of Atlantis and he’s got a LOT of catching up to do. Luckily, he has his two royal advisors to back him up – Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. Between dealing with unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him, Aquaman is going to have to rise to the challenge and prove to his subjects, and to himself, that he’s the right man for the trident!
