Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who played Black Manta in Aquaman replied to James Gunn’s confirmation of The Suicide Squad cast, joking that he auditioned to be part of the film.

Earlier today, James Gunn officially revealed the cast for The Suicide Squad, of which he serves as the film’s writer/director. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II replied to James Gunn’s tweet, joking that he would have a role in the upcoming film.

Obviously, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is just having some fun with James Gunn on Twitter, but some fans would naturally begin speculating that he could potentially reprise his role as Black Manta in The Suicide Squad. After all, Black Manta has been affiliated with the Suicide Squad in the comics so it would make sense for him to appear.

Nonetheless, if Yahya Abdul-Mateen II won’t appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, he is expected to return as Black Manta in Aquaman 2, which is currently slated for a December 16, 2022 release.
