Aquaman’s solo outing has raked in the entire box office run of Justice League in China in just four days.
Justice League was a bad film, both financially and critically. But there were a few moments that made the struggles it went through a bit easier, one of which was the successful introduction of Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the world of Atlantis. This silver lining in Justice League ended up giving Warner Bros. the large payday they were looking for. Aquaman has made $107.6 million in just four days, which is more than Justice League’s $106 million total haul in China.
This isn’t the only good news for the DC Extended Universe. Aquaman’s opening weekend splash of $94.2 million is the fourth largest opening for a film in the superhero genre in China. Venom, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Infinity War are the only films to top the Atlantean’s solo film, which is not bad considering this is the character that was DC’s biggest joke for years.
This all bodes well for the James Wan-directed film as it is set to debut this holiday season to a very competitive roster of films. But all signs are pointing to Aquaman having a solid run when it opens domestically.
How well do you think Aquaman’s box office in the states? Do you think it will fare better than Justice League? Please share your thoughts in the comments below.
