Aquaman director James Wan revealed he pitched a Blade reboot to a “particular studio” years ago after the success of the first Conjuring film.
Before taking on Aquaman directorial duties in 2015, Wan was circling a Blade reboot. Blade was one of the first Marvel characters to get the live action treatment with three films starring Wesley Snipes. It has been fourteen years since the last film and some Marvel fans have been clamoring for a reboot of the character. Marvel Studios got the Blade film rights from Sony back in 2013, but the character still awaits his MCU debut. Wan revealed on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that he actually pitched a Blade reboot after the success of The Conjuring, which came out in 2013:
“Years back, a couple of years back, I think it was right after Conjuring 1 that I went into a particular studio and told them ‘Hey, I’m a big fan of Blade. Would you guys be interested in rebooting Blade?’ So that was one. Obviously, nothing came out of that! But that was my first intro into looking at potential comic book properties.”
However, the Aquaman director admits he doesn’t remember what the pitch was, just that he liked it at the time:
“It was just to kind of talk about it. I didn’t have a full presentation. I did have an idea, I can’t quite remember what it was. That’s how far back it was and I’ve done a lot since then so I can’t quite remember what I had thought of. But I did like it at the time.”
