‘Aquaman’ Set Video Shows Off Arthur Curry’s New Armor & Mera

Jason Momoa and Amber Heard were seen on the set of James Wan's 'Aquaman' as Arthur Curry and Mera, shooting a scene for the highly-anticipated movie.

Shooting on location for next year’s Aquaman, Jason Momoa and Amber Heard were spotted shoreside in the Australian coastal suburb of Currumbin and look slightly different from their Justice League appearance in a set video that recently surfaced online.

While Mera’s costume looks to be the one everyone saw online early on into Justice League production, it’s certainly not the regal, more armored version of Mera we’ve seen since. As for Aquaman, his armor is seemingly unlike anything revealed thus far. Have a look for yourself below.

The main thing to note for Mera is what she’s holding in the video. Though it’s hard to make out what it is, perhaps it’s something key to the plot of the film. Meanwhile, what’s interesting about Momoa’s chestplate and shoulder pads is how similar they look to the ‘crustacean’ type of armor seen in concept art for Aquaman in the abandoned Justice League: Mortal movie that was set to be directed by George Miller and slated for 2009.

In any case, the new armor is certainly fitting for a warrior of both land and sea. Plus, it only adds to Momoa’s wardrobe, which seems to rotate from fully armored to shirtless with jeans — this look is a good midway point. Meanwhile, Mera continues to accurately resemble her comic book counterpart.

Directed by James Wan and written by Will Beall, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

Aquaman is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on Dec. 21, 2018. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the upcoming movie and the DC Extended Universe!
