‘Arrow’: Artemis To Return With A ‘Cool, Exciting Twist’

Stephen Amell Arrow

Arrow season 5 has been on a roll lately with bringing in both new and old characters. First, the Earth-2 version of Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) (a.k.a. Black Siren) came back to play with the team’s emotions. Then we got a brief glimpse of Talia Al Ghul (Lexa Doig) in one of the flashback scenes. Finally, we got a tease of Tina Boland (Juliana Harkavy) and her sonic-scream powers. However, it looks as if another character will be making a return to the show: Evelyn Sharp (Madison McLaughlin) (a.k.a. Artemis).

In the first half of the season, Evelyn was one of Team Arrow’s new recruits, operating under the name Artemis. But, as the Prometheus story unfolded, she later revealed herself to be a traitor in league with the villain. Spurred by the reality of Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) past actions, Evelyn turned to Prometheus to try and help him take Team Arrow down. When we last saw her, she walked off with Prometheus into the night.

It’s not surprising that Evelyn will be making a comeback, as her arc never truly felt resolved, and thanks to TV Line, we now know a bit about her eventual return. Able to grab hold of executive producer Wendy Mericle, they asked if we’ve seen the last of Evelyn.

“We have a really cool, exciting twist for how she’s going to reappear,” Mericle said. “The interesting thing about the choices Evelyn has made is that as much as she took the moral high ground when confronting Oliver, she has allied herself with someone who is even worse. She’s gone from the frying pan into the fire.”

It’s already been shown that Evelyn has a strong sense of morality given her reaction to the truth of Oliver’s past murderous ways. Could it be that she’ll return to the show to help bring Prometheus down? Will the betrayer make yet another betrayal? Or could she become a full-on villain in her own right?

With no news as to when she’ll be returning, we at least know that, when she does, Evelyn will be coming back with a “cool, exciting twist.”

Are you looking forward to Artemis’ return? What do you think the circumstances surrounding that return will be?

Arrow airs on Wednesday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
