Asher Angel has confirmed that the Shazam sequel is set to begin filming soon.
Appearing on ET Live to promote his music, Asher Angel began to divulge how he’s excited to get started on the Shazam sequel. Shazam hit theatres earlier last year and was met with critical and commercial acclaim for being one of the most wholesome superhero films in the last little while. A Shazam sequel has been confirmed for quite some time, but the timeline of its production has been in speculation for quite some time. Luckily, Asher Angel has cleared that up for us.
On the show, Asher Angel discussed how excited he was to begin working on the Shazam sequel with Zachary Levi again, but also he still hasn’t read the script yet.
“I think we start filming really soon, so I’m super excited. I don’t know – I haven’t read the script yet.”
One of the highlights from Shazam was seeing Asher Angel and Zachary Levi on the big screen. Of course, they didn’t have any scenes together, but their off-screen friendship was one of the most adorable things to come out of Shazam. Asher Angel spoke on their relationship in the interview, and how he’s excited to reunite with his Shazam co-star.
“I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see him. I feel like I haven’t seen him in a long time. He keeps inviting me out to Texas — well, I’m kind of inviting myself out there, because that’s where he lives — but he’s like, ‘Asher, come to Texas.’ I’m like, ‘Bro, where’s my invite?’ But he’s the best, I’m so proud of him and I can’t wait to see him.”
Details on the upcoming Shazam sequel are slim, but fans can expect more of what they loved from the original film. For one, fans can expect the iconic Shazam family to return on the big screen and hopefully play a much larger role. Beyond that, knowing that Black Adam is on its way, fans can expect tons of references to the Shazam villain.

Here is the synopsis for Shazam!:
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
