Avatar Studios The Last Airbender Nickelodeon

The first theatrical Avatar: The Last Airbender film from Avatar Studios will follow Aang and his friends after the events of the original series.

Lots of Avatar: The Last Airbender content is on the way, with Paramount developing several projects under Avatar Studios led by series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Before forming Avatar Studios, DiMartino and Konietzko worked with Netflix on another live-action adaptation of the original series before exiting. That series is still moving forward and recently wrapped filming.

Avatar Studios is developing projects for theaters and Paramount Plus. Three animated theatrical films are in the works, with the first set to be directed by Lauren Montgomery. A previous rumor suggested the films would be about Zuko, Kyoshi, and Korra.

The Gaang Returns!

During the Avatar: Braving the Elements panel at San Diego Comic-Con, The Legend of Korra star Janet Varney revealed the first theatrical film from Avatar Studios will actually follow Aang and his friends as adults. You can watch a video of the exciting announcement below.

Aang, Katara, Toph, Sokka, and Zuko all appear as adults in The Legend of Korra at various points in the series. However, only Zuko, Katara, and Toph are alive. There are also several stories explored in comics, but with recent comments from the creators suggesting those stories will remain canon, it will be interesting to see where they will go with the first film.

Here is the synopsis for Avatar: The Last Airbender:

With the Fire Nation on the brink of global domination, a young girl and her brother discover a 12-year old Airbender who reveals himself as the Avatar. Will this irresponsible kid accept his destiny in time to save the world?

Created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the animated series features the voicing talents of Zach Tyler Eisen, Mae Whitman, Jack DeSena, Dante Basco, Jessie Flower, Dee Bradley Baker, Mako, Greg Baldwin, Grey DeLisle, and Mark Hamill.
