‘Avengers 4’ Directors Call Film’s Ending A ‘Big Game-Changer’

While promoting 'Avengers: Infinity War', the Russo Brothers ensure that 'Avengers 4' will have a similar game-changer ending.

Avengers: Infinity War is decimating nearly every box office record in its path. Critics and audiences seem to agree that Anthony and Joe Russo have knocked this one out of the park, especially with the way the film ends.

The Marvel film concludes with Thanos (Josh Brolin) with all the Infinity Stones and snapping his fingers to erase half of all life in the universe despite a major injury from Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his new Stormbreaker weapon. The effects of the snap show that some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the majority of the Guardians of the Galaxy have been wiped from existence – leaving much of the founding Avengers to fix this once and for all.

While plot details for Avengers 4 remain slim, the film’s trajectory has been teased by the Russo Brothers, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. While appearing on Sway’s Universe, the Russo Brothers hinted at what’s to come following the snap in Avengers 4. Joe explains:

“We will say this: obviously Thanos is a very formidable villain and to beat Thanos will come at a very high cost. We’re committed to stakes, we believe in stakes, and we like to shake up the Marvel Universe. We had a big game-changer at the end of Winter Soldier, had a big game-changer at the end of Civil War, a big game-changer at the end of Infinity War. Obviously, there will be a big game changer at the end of Avengers 4.”

Avengers 4 is expected to be the true finale of all the stories of all three phases of the MCU. Given the way Avengers: Infinity War sets everything up, its follow-up is shaping up to be an even bigger event film that will permanently shake up the entire franchise as we know it.

Avengers 4 will hit theaters on May 3, 2019. Meanwhile, here is the synopsis for Avengers: Infinity War:

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Don Cheadle, Tom Holland, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Peter Dinklage, Benedict Wong, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Gwyneth Paltrow, Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Chris Pratt, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright.
