Ant-Man, of all characters, turned out to be a dark horse for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having a movie that succeeded in spite of the naysayers, along with having a big presence in Captain America: Civil War that endeared him to a lot of people who were previously apathetic about the character. A new photo of Avengers 4 shows the size-shifting superhero teaming up with Captain America, Iron Man, and the Hulk.
The images, snapped on the movie’s Georgia set, show the superheroes yukking it up in what appears to be a blooper take and engaged in conversation in a few other shots.
Also of interest in this image is that Chris Evans is clean-shaven and in unmistakably clear Captain America gear instead of the “Nomad” outfit he has in Avengers: Infinity War. So for whatever reason, it looks as though our plucky hero will be back to his old self after spending some time in exile.
Interestingly, he’s wearing the same outfit that he wore in The Avengers. However, a source on the set of filming clarifies that this is NOT a flashback to the Battle of New York.
…Which should sort of be a given considering that Ant-Man and the Hulk haven’t met (at least not outside of a Marvel Studios-produced Coca-Cola commercial) and that Iron Man appears to be in a different set of armor than he was in that movie. However, knowing that one of the Infinity Stones can make time-travel possible, it may just be that Ant-Man has been sent back in time for whatever reason. Could it be possible that Cap dies? We’ll have another two movies to find out…
Avengers: Infinity War will be released on May 4, 2018, and has a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Rudd, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Hiroyuki Sanada, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Tessa Thompson, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Josh Brolin. Here’s the official synopsis:
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
The currently-untitled Avengers 4 features a cast made up of many of the key players in Infinity War — alongside newcomers like Brie Larson and Evangeline Lilly — and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2019.
