A Marvel fan on Reddit may have stumbled across a line in Captain America: The First Avenger that could support one prominent Avengers 4 title theory.
Avengers: Infinity War was released about six months ago but given the major cliffhanger at the end of the film, it makes it feel as though it was ages ago. Marvel has remained silent about Avengers 4 so much that they haven’t even revealed the film’s official title just yet. Fans have plenty of theories though and one of them is that the film will carry the tagline Annihilation. There’s plenty of interesting evidence supporting this theory and the latest piece comes from a film that was released almost a decade ago.
A Reddit post from user 12Blane17 stated that he had run across a possible hint that suggests that Annihilation may be a more realistic title than some may think. The hint comes from the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger. When Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is being prepared to take part in the Super Soldier Serum experiment, Dr. Erskine (Stanley Tucci) has a line that prominently features the phrase “Annihilation.” Check out the full quote in the post below.
It’s not likely that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige or the film’s writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely placed this line there because they knew it would be the title for Avengers 4. That being said, if that does end up being the title then it could give a whole new context to this moment and many other moments like it throughout the franchise. If fan theories are correct about Cap being killed off in Avengers 4, then it could make this scene much, much more emotional with each new viewing.
