After seeing Avengers: Infinity War, we think we’ve got a good guess about what the mystery title of Avengers 4 is going to be. Spoiler alert!
So far, we’ve got little to go off of as far as what the title of Avengers 4 is, with our only official hint being that it won’t be called Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet. But there’s one line in Infinity War itself that has us thinking that the movie may have teased the name of its sequel. After Doctor Strange willingly surrenders the Time Stone in exchange for Thanos’s word that he won’t kill Tony Stark, Tony demands an explanation from the sorcerer, to which he explains:
“We’re in the endgame now.”
Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige has previously stated that right now, we can divide Marvel into two distinct eras: one which is made up of everything up until Avengers 4 and one that represents everything afterward. That’s how much of an impact that the events of the Phase 3 finale is going to have on the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward. So what better way to signify that Avengers 4 is the end of an era by calling it Avengers: Endgame?
It’s worth noting that, earlier in the movie, Strange witnessed millions of possible scenarios for how their fight against Thanos would go, and that the Avengers were victorious in only one of them. Strange’s belief that giving Thanos an Infinity Stone, with the explicit promise that Tony Stark would be spared in return, was the only way to proceed heavily implies that Tony Stark is a crucial part of his plan. Let’s just hope that Stark can figure it out and find a way to save trillions of lives in (what we hope is called) Avengers: Endgame.
Avengers: Infinity War is now playing in theaters, with a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautisa, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Sebastian Stan, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Wong, Letitia Wright, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Tom Hiddleston, Benicio Del Toro, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Terry Notary, Carrie Coon, and Josh Brolin. Here’s the official Infinity War synopsis:
As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos.
