HUGE SPOILER WARNING FOR AVENGERS: ENDGAME BELOW!

Chris Evans’ portrayal of Steve Rogers has been on a long journey ever since his debut in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Chris Evans goes on a journey of changing from a regular man to a living legend through each film in the MCU. And now, in Avengers: Endgame, the legend of Captain America expands even further, giving us all a few moments  we’ve been waiting for ever since Avengers Age of Ultron. If you’re a fan of the comics then you’ve been waiting for Captain America to finally utter those two magic words.

During the finale of Avengers: Endgame, Thanos from 2014 time travels to 2023, the year film takes place due a five year time jump, to take the Infinity Stones that the Avengers have gathered to undo what their timeline’s version of Thanos did when he snapped half of all living beings out of existence. Thanos bombs the Avengers headquarters just moments after they use the Infinity Stones to snap everyone back to life, separating the Avengers and putting them on the defensive.

Iron Man, Thor, with both Stormbreaker and Mjölnir from 2014, and Captain America go to take on Thanos directly. Even without any Infinity Stones, Thanos proves to an absolutely devastating opponent. At one point, Thanos has Thor held down, pushing Stormbreaker into Thor’s chest. At the last second, Mjölnir flies into Thanos, knocking him back. But, the hammer doesn’t return to Thor. It returns to none other than Captain America.

Now 100% confirmed, Chris Evans’ Captain America is worthy of wielding Thor’s legendary hammer, Mjölnir. The fight carries on with Captain America even using Mjölnir to summon lightning against Thanos. Thor and Captain America accidentally switch weapons during battle, as both are worthy of using the other, to which Thor tells Cap to switch and hands Mjölnir back.

This scene was first teased back in Avengers: Age of Ultron during the afterparty scene in which the team all took turns trying to lift Thor’s hammer. Chris Evans’ Captain America was the only one who was able to move it slightly, putting a look of concern on Thor’s face. Now that Captain America lifts the weapon in Endgame, Thor blurts out “I knew it,” signaling that Cap was always able to lift Mljonir.

If this scene wasn’t enough fan service for you, the tides turn against the Avengers as Thanos releases his army to destroy what’s left of the Avengers. But, since Hulk did reverse the snap with the Infinity Stones, every hero who was dusted returns. Sam radios Captain America and gives a call back to Captain America: Winter Soldier. “On your left.”

As Cap looks, he see Doctor Strange bring all the armies from Wakanda, New Asgard and other sorcerers to fight Thanos and his Army. Captain America, seeing all his allies rallied besides him finally says the words we’ve all been waiting for “Avengers….Assemble.”
