Avengers star Chris Evans says that the MCU is a success because of producer Kevin Feige.
The MCU has become a critical and commercial juggernaut in the last decade, winning numerous awards and breaking countless financial records. At the head of the cinematic universe is none other than producer Kevin Feige, who helped mold what has now become the MCU. And while he’s been praised for years by directors and actors for his creative vision, Feige has another fan in Avengers star Chris Evans, who he helped convince to become Captain America.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Avengers star Chris Evans respectfully discussed how the MCU couldn’t have been a success without Kevin Feige at the helm.
“The buck stops with Kevin Feige, doesn’t it? I mean, it must. It’d be one thing if there were a few good Marvel movies and then a few stinkers. It’d be one thing if every other shop in town was making the hits as effortlessly as Marvel was, but it’s just not happening that way. I guess when you start to collect the data and figure out what’s the common denominator, I really think it must be Kevin Feige. He doesn’t let things be bad.”
Chris Evans continued by discussing how he wouldn’t have played Captain America in the MCU if it hadn’t have been for Kevin Feige who convinced him to take on the role.
“It was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I really owe that to Kevin Feige for being persistent and helping me avoid making a giant mistake.”
Kevin Feige upstarted the MCU in 2008 with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, which instantly thrusted the brand new franchise to success. Soon after, Feige rounded out the roster for the rest of the Avengers, landing on Chris Evans to play Steve Rogers for the WWII film Captain America: The First Avenger. Debuting as the star-spangled hero in 2011, Evans played the Avengers character until Endgame, which signalled as the end of the first three phases of the MCU.
